FireMarshall Entertainment
As Head of Promotions & Marketing for the Chemist, Troy Marshall handles a wide range of responsibilities from overseeing radio and club promotions, to marketing at the newly-launched label founded by its CEO Garnett March. The company has a young roster of talented Hip-Hop and R&B acts comprised of Anthony Lewis, Av LMKR, the Greys, Billy Bang, and Dalton. Marshall joined Chemist in the summer of 2014. This is a reunion of sorts for March and Marshall, as the gentlemen were longtime colleagues at Interscope Records, where they ran the label’s Urban Music Division.
Early in 2014, Marshall formed a partnership with Grammy-winning producers Midi Mafia (50 Cent, Fantasia, John Legend), architects of the multi-media company, Brand X, where Marshall is currently president. The Brand X roster of Pop, R&B and Hip-Hop acts consist of the Jazmin Sisters, Liane V, and rapper MuchoDinero.
In 2013, Marshall was General Manager at New Nation Entertainment, where he worked closely with its CEO, producer Vassal Benford. In 2011, Marshall founded his own enterprise, Fire Marshall Entertainment. The company is a virtual one-stop shop that connects independent recording artists and labels to a bevy of services; i.e. lifestyle, radio and club promotion, marketing expertise, publicity services, social media, down to A&R services. Marshall was instrumental in securing a recording deal for indie rap artist Michael Montana with Universal Records. Montana scored a major hit, particularly in the southern U.S. region, with his single, titled, “Do It.” Marshall’s efforts were also critical for the promotional campaign of Epic recording rap artist Future.
In 2011, Marshall was appointed Senior Vice President of Marketing/Promotions & Sales of Moreno BHLV, a premier Sparkling Wine and water bottler based in Los Angeles.
Prior, he served as Vice President of Lifestyle Branding and Rap Promotion for Interscope Geffen and A&M Records (IGA), a post he held since 2007. His accomplishments as a record executive and influential music industry insider have made him one of the most respected professionals on the scene today. There is a hardly a DJ, radio programmer, air-personality, journalist, or urban music tastemaker unfamiliar with Troy Marshall. As Vice President of Rap Promotion for IGA, Marshall worked with an array of some of the top recording artists, from Lady Gaga, Akon, Mary J. Blige, Diddy, Common and 50 Cent, to the Pussycat Dolls, Keyshia Cole, Timbaland, Soulja Boy, and a litany of others.
In his role as lead executive on the label’s lifestyle branding initiatives, Marshall spearheaded key IGA events such as the annual “Crème of the Crop” dinner following the BET Awards at the Beverly Hills landmark Mr. Chow’s. He also branded campaigns for projects such as the label’s partnership with Monster Cable on the “Beats By Dre,” “Diddy Beats” and “Heart Beats by Lady GaGa” product lines; the new “Melodies” luxury eyewear by Mary J. Blige; and new flavored water product line, Flav H2O.
Prior to his arrival at IGA, Marshall served in the same capacity at the Universal Motown Records Group. While at Universal Motown Records Group, he worked with multi-Platinum recording artist Nelly, Chamillionaire, Ali & Gipp, Lil’ Wayne, the Cash Money Clique, and more.
Prior to Universal Motown, Marshall served at Warner Bros. Records in Los Angeles, where he helped develop artists such as Trillville, Mike Jones, Lil Scrappy, and others. He held a ten year stint at MCA
Records (before the company was absorbed into Geffen Records) from 1994 to 2004 in the promotion arena, where he worked with artists including the aforementioned Common and Mary J. Blige, Jodeci, The Roots, Field Mob, Shaggy, among others. Marshall began his career in the music business in 1994 at MCA as a music coordinator.
Troy has worked alongside some of the most important record executives in the music business, from Interscope CEO Jimmy Iovine and Universal-Motown CEO Sylvia Rhone, to a list of Senior and Executive Vice Presidents that include A.D. Washington, Step Johnson, Garnett March, Cynthia Johnson, Ken Wilson, among others.
“I’ve been in the business nearly 20 years, and it’s a pleasure and an honor to be able to work with some of the world’s most incredible recording artists, as well as some of the industry’s top creative and business minds. A hallmark of my career has been the ability to maintain a high level of professionalism in the boardroom, while keeping my ear to the street – something I attribute in part to the hardworking staff and street teams who support me, along with great music to pass along to the audience and consumer.”
“The music industry continues to evolve and I’ve watched it transition from 12inch singles, cassettes and CDs, to social networks, digital downloads, MP3s and Ipods. Regardless of the mode in which we deliver music, it always comes back to having a great song, coupled with expert promotion, marketing and branding. I hope to continue with that philosophy as I continue down my career path.”
Troy Marshall holds a Bachelor of Arts in History, having graduated from UCLA.
